Summer is here and of course I am in my glory. I see my writing slowing down considerably as life gets in the way of my thoughts.
We watched Kelly graduate with honors last Friday. Party at my house of course.
In fact, my home was party central throughout Memorial day weekend and at one point I was running two grills. I’m exhausted.
I managed to bring the Seadoo on the water both Saturday and Sunday. It gets a little tricky with two broken fingers I will confess.
Now that there are more residents in our neighborhood, people are getting weird about rules and beach etiquitte. I imagine I have broken almost every golf cart rule possible and the neighborhood is up in arms about this “extreme” golf carting. Whoops! We are just having fun.
I have noiced some residents complain about the Seadoo although I can assure you we are very savvy in the ways of maritime laws and boating safety. We aren’t coming anywhere near swimmers or other craft.
Many of you know I have all but stopped any kind of drinking. It just isn’t good for my heart. I’ll have a beer now and again or a glass of wine but that is it.
Anyhow, I love getting chewed out about my golf cart on the beach ( I just use it to load in and load out) when the same person is standing on that very same public beach with an open container. In fact, this friend of mine became rather indignant when I pointed out that she was absolutely in violation of State and local laws and that the punishment of her current actions constitute a class IV misdemeanor. I went on to say that her punishment and infraction is considered worse by the law than me driving an unauthorized vehicle on the beach.
Her argument? Apples to Oranges. Uh, okay….
I wanted to tell her that this argument was the true definition of hypocrisy. I refrained because I have known her since college. They are advocates. I know her comments stem from other residents and she simply had the decency to tell me to my face.
The drinking in my neighborhood is every bit as severe as my college days. This is what they do.
I’m not calling the cops on anyone. I don’t have a problem with it. I’ll bet there are residents who don’t appreciate their drinking either so this behavior will be an ongoing battle till someone complains and summonses are issued.
I know two wrongs don’t make a right.
On a lighter note I am on the news for the next month boasting about our beaches; yes it will be online and yes I am on the dunes in a sportcoat, tie and barefeet. Sheesh.
The surf is up today. I wish I could be surfing with my little girl right now. Don’t forget your springsuit. The water is slightly chilly.
I’ll see you on the beach.
Peace,
Bobby
